Clinton= Democratic candidate= Republicans happy?

Rudy Giuliani said he is the one who will beat Hillary Clinton, because only he can do the deed. So reports suggesst that Clinton is going ot be the democratic candidate for presidency. Rudy says that the democrats will have a Clinton-Obama campaign at their hands. And Giuliani can easily beat them. I mean if you think about it the CLinton-Obama campaign will be a double whammy for the American citizen. A woman and a black man. Those are two big NO's rolled into one. I mean it is quite cheeky of Giuliani to predict the election result but the possibility of these events happening the way Giuliani predicts cannot be disregarded. I do not know how I feel about this. Giuliani and Clinton competed for the US senate post and Giuliani withdrew because of prostate cancer. Clinton has built her campaign on her experience as a NY senator to discredit Obama b/c of his lack of experience.
"The perception is that Rudy knows how to handle the Clintons," said Lee Miringoff, pollster at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York. "It's an excellent strategy. The message is 'I know Hillary. I know how to beat her. I know her weaknesses.' "

Moreover not many republican candidates are discussed in the papers. He might win the the Republican ticket. But I am not quite sure if he will win the Presidential ticket. hmmmm.

I think you're right about Giuliani being a little overconfident here believing Americans do not want a woman or black man--although I haven't heard him actually say these things. But that's really interesting. It could be why Giuliani isn't really actively campaigning. I think he's relying on people to remember his leadership after 9/11 to carry him through the election. And yes I agree, I think he's the bigger Republican candidate but I don't think he can take office. We'll see.

I think Giuliani is right. As sad as it may be, conventional voters will not vote for a black man or a woman. Giuliani has been saying the right things. He is a very moderate Republican with primarily democratic views on most subjects except for business. If he plays his cards right, I think he could be leading our country next year for better or for worse...

I've been thinking alot lately about what would happen if the election came down to Giuliani and Clinton. It's definitely a very hard call to make and Giuliani is gutsy for making that comment. I do feel as though he reaches more of a variety of the public because he is socially liberal and alot of independents (which is a huge part of the population) are attracted to that as well as his fiscally conservative viewpoints. Also, Hilary does have the "woman" card playing against her. While it's time for America to look past gender and color, the reality is that ALOT of people aren't ready to do that, even if it means getting someone into office that will make a huge change for our country, which is currently in trouble. Giuliani is making predictions way too far in advance and I wonder if that will end up coming back to bite him? As Allison said...we'll see!

I think Giulian's head is growing too big. He is counting on the NYC vote at least- but NYC is licking him less and less and he has a lot of things going against him for a republican he is too liberal and for the moderate he is too conservative.

I agree with TristOneill. Do you think most Americans are ready to vote for either an African-American or a woman? Guiliani, however has to get off the whole "remember 9/11" thing if he wants to win this campaign. Looking on at the past is not going to win votes nor change anything. What he needs to do is look ahead in the future, and not focus on competing with Hillary.
